Requirements

Band: Requirements for each group include two selections from the group’s state music list. A march is optional, as long as the total performance time does not exceed 30 minutes. If three selections would create a time violation, the director may elect to perform the march and large work with varying stylistic sections.

Orchestra: Requirements for each group include three compositions: a selection (full or string) of the director’s choice and two selections from the group’s state list. If three selections would create a time violation, the director may elect to perform the chosen piece and a large work with varying stylistic sections.

Mariachi/Jazz Ensemble: There are no required musical selections; however, the performance must consist of two to three compositions of contrasting styles readily identifiable with the major traditions of mariachi or jazz. They should be by the performance capabilities of the group and should demonstrate techniques, versatility, and soloist virtuosity.

*Show/Jazz Choir: There are no required selections in this category. Any number of pieces may be performed as long as the total performance time does not exceed the allowed minutes.

Dance: There are no limitations in this category. Any genre of audio music may be used as long as the total performance time does not exceed the allowed minutes.
