Mary Nell Thornton grew up in New Braunfels, TX, graduated from New Braunfels High School, and attended Texas Women’s University. She spent her career working with children and was the owner/founder of Mary’s Little Lambs Daycare in Schertz, Texas.
She was known by many children and families as “Miss Mary.” Her dedication and commitment to her profession helped shape the lives of many children throughout the local community.
During her youth, she played clarinet and was a twirler in the New Braunfels High School “Unicorn Band” in New Braunfels, TX. As an adult, she became a strong advocate for the performing arts, always encouraging children to participate because of the invaluable life tools it provides. One of her sons, Scott Hartsfield, enjoyed a career as a Texas public school band director.
Her life will continue to be celebrated through The ARTS Music Scholarship Program.
